Skin Care: A Matter That Shouldn’t Be Neglected by Seniors

Skin Care A Matter That Shouldn’t Be Neglected by Seniors

At your age, are you still following a skin care plan? If not, then you should consider starting one now. As we all know, the skin is one of the largest organs in our body. We often take our skin for granted, not knowing that it’s just as important as our heart and brain. Don’t believe it? Try to imagine living without your skin. It’s impossible!

Our skin serves as a protective barrier that keeps our internal organs protected from injury. On top of that, it also gives a home to our sensory organs and numerous nerve endings. So you see, we greatly depend on our skin for a lot of things. That should be enough reason why we must continually do skin care. Don’t worry, doing skincare isn’t all that difficult (or expensive).

For the most part, all you have to do is…

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
Keeping your body hydrated is on top of the skincare list for a good reason. It will prevent your skin from drying out and sustaining unnecessary damage.
  • Maintain personal hygiene.
This is very self-explanatory. Take a bath regularly to stop unwanted bacteria or fungi from thriving on your skin!
  • Put on sunblock.
It sure is fun to engage in outdoor activities, isn’t it? However, the UV light from the sun can be quite damaging. Keep your skin protected from sunburns with sunblock.
  • Lather on some gentle moisturizer or lotion.
Skin care products don’t just aim to make you look beautiful. They contain nourishing ingredients like Vitamin E to keep your skin healthy too!
  • Keep a balanced diet.
Caring for your skin isn’t just about putting on topical creams, it’s also about nurturing it from within! And what’s a better way to do just that than to eat a healthy meal every day? Load up your diet on fruits and vegetables to give your skin a lively glow!
  • Regularly check for injuries.
As you get older, your body changes. This rings true for your skin too. You see, when you are a senior, you will be more prone to having a thinner skin for a number of reasons; it could be because of constant sun exposure, genetics, certain types of medication, etc.

By then, you will also have thinner skin. This will make you more prone to suffer from injuries (like cuts and bruises). if these injuries aren’t tended to in a timely manner, it could result in skin infections and other dangerous complications.

That’s why checking the skin is an important part of the whole routine. However, if you’re unable to do it on your own, you can ask a family member or a carer from Future Expectations Community Care Services to assist you with skin care and other personal tasks. We will also gladly serve you with home and community care in Winnfield, LA, upon request!
